The Messy Middle
November 2020
As coaches and facilitators we are fortunate to work with many individuals and organisations with their unique stories, perspectives and goals.
But from across a range of conversations some common themes emerge.
Nothing about the times we are living through is normal. The initial flurry of activity to get everyone set up working safely during lockdown has passed. But the pandemic hasn’t. Many are experiencing fatigue and uncertainty, whilst questioning the purpose of their work and facing big decisions without their usual sounding boards, context, and thinking environments.
We’re in what Brené Brown has described as the Day 2 and the Messy Middle. We’ve hit a wall but the end is not yet clear. It might feel uncomfortable, but it’s also as she says “where all the magic happens, all the tension that creates goodness and learning.”
We wanted to acknowledge the uncertainty and create a space for leaders to take the time to think, reflect and regroup.
